“I dwell in possibility,” wrote Emily Dickinson. Yoga offers an opportunity to explore our unique, individual possibilities. A regular yoga practice will improve posture, strength, flexibility, balance, and can enrich our quality of life outside the yoga practice by cultivating a deeper sense of awareness of ourselves and the world around us. Yoga is an ideal exercise to generate a feeling of both relaxation and energy.
I have been practicing yoga for ten years and teaching for eight. I am certified at the 200-hour level and have taught in gyms, community recreation centers, my home, other people's homes, a couple of schools and a chiropractor's office. In my years of teaching, I have worked with complete beginners as well as experienced yogis, athletes as well as those with various physical limitations, and have seen firsthand that yoga truly has something for everyone.
When people ask me "What kind of yoga do you teach?" I say that I offer a widely-accessible, mixed level, basic form of Hatha yoga. My style can be described as an eclectic and practical blend, with Iyengar and Anusara influences. I incorporate some vinyasa flow in my classes, but my approach is always gentle rather than forceful. Yoga should be challenging at times, but I do not believe it should ever be aggressive. Through my classes, I want my students to feel nurtured -- by me, by the yoga, by themselves -- and to feel more physically, mentally, and emotionally empowered to meet life as it comes. It is my intention to share the benefits of yoga with my students in a way which is safe, inspiring, light-hearted, and fun.
I am currently scheduling private and small-group classes in the Allen/Plano/Frisco/McKinney area, and I have classes available online at http://harmonyswell.com/yogawithbeth .
