About Yoga

Great news: you do not need to be flexible in order to practice yoga!  Additionally, no one is too old, overweight, or out-of-shape to try yoga for the first time.  Yoga is an ideal exercise to generate a feeling of relaxation AND energy.  Balance, strength, and flexibility are other benefits you will gain with a regular yoga practice.  Yoga is not a religion and my teaching will not interfere with your personal faith or spiritual beliefs.  You can practice yoga as often as you choose -- from once a week to twice a day!  It's a good idea to practice yoga on a fairly empty stomach.  A yoga mat is the only prop you need for class, though yoga blocks and straps are also helpful.  Yoga mats and blocks can be purchased at sporting goods stores, bookstores, Wal-Mart or Target.  Old neck ties work well for straps.  You should plan to do your yoga with bare feet and wear comfortable clothes to class -- fitted shirts are better than loose, baggy shirts, and pants should allow plenty of movement.  It's a good idea to pull long hair back away from your face, but note that ponytails can be uncomfortable if you're lying on your back.
